Talking about how to secure Dropbox account by two step
verification, it is great news for all the Dropbox users who always used to dream of a more secure Dropbox. Dropbox has finally
improved its security issues. With the introduction of two step verification,
intruders won’t be able to access your Dropbox account just through password.
They will need something more than that from now on. This means more security
for the confidential data that you keep at Dropbox.
The two step verification of Dropbox is more or less similar
to that of Google. There were presently two options for it. Firstly, one can
opt for receiving a 6 digit security code through message to phone (international numbers are also supported) prior to
accessing the account. Alternatively, if one uses any smartphone then one can
choose to download the authenticator app. This app will generate new security
code on the phone itself and seems to be more preferable if you don’t share
your phone with others.
Getting to the main point about how to secure Dropbox
account with two step verification, you have to first land in their security
page and then enable the “two step verification” option (look at the bottom of
the page). After that, follow the instruction given on the screen. On the
process you will have to associate your phone or add your phone number to the
account for the purpose of receiving codes. On successful activation, Dropbox
will also provide with an emergency backup code which you have to keep in a secure
place. The emergency backup code can be used in case you lose your mobile phone
to retrieve the files and change password or mobile numbers.
After you have enabled the two step verification
for Dropbox, download the latest copy of their software for PCs. Practically, there isn't much visible change in the software but obviously they have included
their two step verification log in process. Also, if you use Dropbox through
tablets or mobile phones, then remove all the previous link and then re-link to
Dropbox to get the two step verification feature. Now, that you have learnt how
to secure Dropbox account with two step verification, your file will be more
secure from those prying eyes once you have enabled the feature.
